After starting work in an Oil company, Mike spent many years as a draftsman and in latter years was a Local Government Officer for Nalgo, then Unison.

When he was around 40, He was elected as Local Councillor for Hildenborough at Tonbridge District Council which later became Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council. During his 35 years as local councillor, he spent two terms as Mayor in 1990 and 2000, moving to become the Hildenborough Parish Council Chairman for 5 years in 2011. Mike was instrumental in setting up twinning partnerships with our French town of Le Puy and the German Heusenstamm Friendship Circle. Having been on various Boards as a volunteer, he eventually retired from all commitments around 2017.

His wish to be involved led Mike to become Governor of Tonbridge Grammar School for Girls, Judd School and Sackville School over many years.

Mike was awarded Freedom of the Borough for his work in the community of Tonbridge and Malling in March 2012
